© What was your model of reading like before you read this slide show?
Reading, in my mind, is defined by reading at a good pace and being able to successfully answer comprehension questions after the reading is finished.
© What has changed or not changed about your model of reading now that you have read this slide show?
The part in the reading about the first chair violinist and the violinists in the back of the class changed my view on how reading should be taught but not really about my model of reading. It is true that the best are just going to get better and the worst will stay the same. This idea helps with classroom management, keep the kids that are struggling up front because you will naturally pay more attention to them. The gifted kids will be motivated enough to keep learning and improving from the back of the classroom.
© What are the implications of this model for your music classroom?
I will encourage students to make up their own music and explore their creativity. Then students could teach each other their own music so all of the students could explore other genres of music. I will then have students explain their songs and why they put certain emphasis on different parts. I will encourage open discussion about music and polite questioning about each other’s music.
